Why are we still voting on gay rights?

we were talking about this is current events cl the teacher said because people feel its fine do whatever you want live with whoever you want but gay marriage is one step too far because it is between man and women i don't know if that's how the teacher felt i don't think he felt that way but that's why it is not legal in many states because the mayor of the state or whatever thinks that a lot of kids said who cares which i agree i don't think it matters
